Climate change is already affecting PEI’s homes, roads, communities, coastlines, industries, and natural areas. This annual report shows what government is doing to respond, from reducing emissions to preparing for extreme weather and coastal change.

What does the report track?

Emissions

PEI’s greenhouse gas emissions were 1.592 megatonnes in 2023, a decrease from the previous year.

Investments

Government of PEI invested an estimated $266.6 million in climate action in 2024–25, including operating and capital investments.

Mitigation

PEI advanced actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency programs, cleaner transportation, active transportation, electric vehicle supports, waste diversion, and clean technology investments.

Adaptation

PEI advanced actions to prepare for climate risks through coastal hazard work, extreme weather preparedness, public infrastructure resilience, emergency planning, climate research, CHRIS, and Coastal Hazard Assessments.

Targets

PEI is tracking progress toward legislated climate goals, including reducing emissions below 1.2 megatonnes by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2040.
