Research That Informs Our Tools

Climate tools and resources are built from research, monitoring, mapping, and risk assessments. These studies help PEI understand climate hazards, strengthen data, inform policy, and support practical adaptation actions. These resources help turn climate data into practical tools, including CHRIS, Coastal Hazard Assessments, shoreline planning, and public guidance.

Highwater Mark Collection

Following Post-Tropical Storm Fiona in 2022, highwater marks, photos, and site data were collected at 56 coastal sites to document storm-surge flooding. This information helps map inundation, assess shoreline vulnerability, and support future coastal planning.

Climate Change Risk Assessment

The PEI Climate Change Risk Assessment helps identify priority climate hazards and understand how they may affect communities, infrastructure, health, the economy, and the environment.

Saltmarsh Mapping

Salt marsh mapping helps identify where PEI’s salt marshes are located today and how they may change over time. Using remote sensing, machine learning, and sea-level rise modelling, this work supports coastal adaptation planning by showing where marshes may be lost, remain stable, or migrate inland in the future.
